Mark Schowalter is Outstanding Volunteer of the Year for Big Brothers Big Sisters.

On Thursday May 9, Vice Chairman Mark Schowalter of PWSB was honored by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ozaukee with The LeDuc Award, an honor given to the outstanding volunteer of the year. The award is named after Bradley LeDuc who founded the Ozaukee chapter back in 1974. The honor was bestowed to Mark during the organization’s anniversary event which celebrated 50 years of helping children in Ozaukee County realize their full potential.

Mark Schowalter first became a “big brother” back in 1978. He mentored two separate Little Brothers over twenty years, and in 2001 he became an advisory member, a role where Mark can continue to support numerous programs and events that the group conducts each year. Mark enjoys engaging with golfers young and old at Golf for Kids’ Sake, cheering on the Port Washington State Bank bowlers at Bowl for Kids’ Sake, and encouraging other community members to consider becoming a “Big.”

Many of the staff at Port Washington State Bank have been inspired by Mark’s actions to bowl, bake, or volunteer for Big Brothers Big Sisters.  The bank recruits as many as 50 bowlers each year for the annual Bowl for Kids’ Sake in March.

Executive Director Nicole Bulow of Big Brother Big Sisters shared her appreciation for Mark’s contributions: “I was extremely honored to recognize Mark for his amazing contributions to Big Brothers Big Sisters over the years. His passion for our programs and the impact it has on our youth is apparent in all that he does to support us. Mark is someone I can always call with a question or a request and he always says Yes. We are truly honored to have him part of our family.”
