Excitement is building among fans and players as work progresses on the new Grafton Little League Baseball Complex located at the corner of Cheyenne Avenue and Lakefield Road. Thirteen years ago, the Grafton Little League began the long process of securing a home for this state-of-the-art baseball complex consisting of three youth baseball fields, one regulation field and two practice fields. The vision was to create space for more practices and games, spring and fall leagues, and hosting local, state and regional Little League World Series qualifying tournaments. In addition to the six fields, there are plans for a concession stand, indoor and outdoor batting cages and a playground.
Port Washington State Bank’s donation of $30,000 toward the project is one of many private donations. “We are happy to provide this investment in the community and look forward to the completion of the project,” said James Schowalter, President and Chief Operating Officer. “This complex will be an amazing site for fans, both young and old, and we are delighted to be part of this wonderful endeavor that promotes physical activity and cooperation among our youth,” continued Schowalter.
The newest field, fondly referred to as Mattie’s “Field of Dreams,” is dedicated to Matt Malkowski, a Grafton High School senior who tragically lost his life from injuries sustained in a car accident. Matt was devoted to his family and community, and this field helps keep his memory alive.
The official dedication ceremony for the new complex will be held August 1st at 1:00 pm. at the fields on the corner of Cheyenne Avenue and Lakefield Road. Join Matt’s family and the Grafton Little League for free hot dogs, chips, soda, and cake. In addition to a field blessing and speeches, there will be a softball game between the Grafton Fire Department and Matt’s Friends.
